The US State Department has urged US citizens in Venezuela to leave the country immediately, warning of a worsening security situation.
"The security situation remains volatile," the State Department said, a week after the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
According to the official announcement, with the resumption of international flights, American citizens should take every opportunity to leave the country as soon as possible.
US authorities have also warned of the danger posed by armed militias known as "colectivos", which are reportedly carrying out roadside checks on vehicles, looking for American citizens or proof of support for the United States.
The State Department has recommended that citizens exercise maximum caution and follow official safety guidelines.
