The barbed wire fencing of a significant area near the Narta lagoon, bordering the village of Zvërnec, has raised the alarm for the destruction of the protected area.
Environmental organizations and some residents of the area protested again this Saturday, demanding the cessation of works with the argument that nature is being destroyed.
The protesters attempted to enter the construction site and clashed with private police, contracted by the company carrying out the investment, "Zvërnec South Adriatic Development".
The protest has sparked public backlash because private police officers, who appear in disguise, throw pepper spray at protesters.
A woman has fainted and the 'masks' at the construction site don't even spare the blue uniforms.
Adriatik Lapaj, the leader of Albania Becomes, has also reacted to the tense situation on social networks.
"No one can drag Albanians along. Edi Rama's junta must be overthrown. The laws on strategic investments must be repealed," he says.
It remains unclear why the state police - in the event that protesters are in violation of the law - do not intervene directly, but rather stay at a distance.
Meanwhile, even if there is no violation of the law that requires the intervention of the state police, why are they leaving room for the situation to be managed by another masked force that resembles paramilitaries?!
The Vlora Police and the General Directorate of the State Police have not yet reacted to the situation.
