SPAK prosecutors have refused to participate in the commission for deepening reforms for good governance, the rule of law, and anti-corruption for Albania 2030 in the European Union, also known as the "Xhafaj" commission.
"In response to your interest, we inform you that the request of the Special Parliamentary Committee "For Deepening Reforms for Good Governance, Rule of Law, and Anticorruption for Albania 2030 in the European Union" (Commission) was very carefully analyzed by being dealt with at the Meeting of Special Prosecutors dated 09.03.2024.
During this meeting, the Special Prosecutors discussed the importance of cooperation with the Assembly for improving the rule of law and the fight against corruption and organized crime, always respecting the principle of separation and balance of powers.
Unanimously, all the Special Prosecutors did not consider it necessary to participate with an expert in this Commission, as they assessed that our institution has already fulfilled its legal obligations for making public the problems encountered during the exercise of its functions, including the needs for relevant legal changes. This legal obligation has been realized through the publication of SPAK's Annual Reports on the official website, as well as periodic reports to the KLP and the Assembly. On the other hand, the Special Prosecutor's Office stated that it is ready to offer its contribution through the provision of legal opinions whenever it is considered necessary by this Commission", it is stated in the announcement of SPAK to the media.
