A police officer in Tirana was mistakenly injured by his colleague while the latter was preparing for training.

The event took place on Thursday (February 15) in the premises of the Tirana Public Security Unit.

Inspector Kostandin Čipi, while preparing for training, accidentally fired his service weapon and wounded his colleague Xhojsi Lamaj in the leg. The latter was taken to the hospital where his life is out of danger.

Meanwhile, police officer Kostandin Çipi has been suspended from duty. An investigative team was immediately set up under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction in Tirana and the procedural actions for this case are being carried out by AMP.

The Directorate of Professional Standards has started an in-depth administrative investigation into the non-compliance of standard procedures for carrying and administering belt weapons by Police employees.

At the end of these actions, the Prosecutor's Office, the Judicial Police and the AMP have started the criminal proceedings in a free state, for the Police employee Kostandim Çipi for negligent injury.
