Three minor children in Durrës were taken into care by Social Services after they were found alone at home, raising suspicions of abandonment.

According to their mother, Blerina, the situation was not abandonment, but a consequence of economic difficulties and her daily life.

"I have three children, 5, 10 and 12 years old. I have been divorced for 5 years and work as a bartender. I leave all three children together when I go to work because I am paid 400 thousand lek per month and I pay 300 thousand lek in rent. I cannot afford to stay with them all the time, but I never abandon them," Blerina explained to News24.

She accuses her ex-mother-in-law of trespassing and influencing her children to speak ill of her, placing her in a difficult legal situation.

"This is a trap. I don't know how someone could enter my house without permission and report me to the police," she says.

Blerina says that her second son suffered from epilepsy and spent a lot of time in hospitals for treatment. She adds that the children's father has been in prison in Italy for 5 years and can now only provide 180 thousand old lek per month for their food.

"I will not leave the children in an orphanage, I will protect them like a mother ," says Blerina, while court proceedings are expected to be opened regarding the ex-mother-in-law's denunciation.

"Police Services, in cooperation with the Child Protection Office, have taken the three minors into protection, who were initially sent to the hospital for medical examinations and then placed at the Durrës Child Protection Center.

"The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Durrës, for further action ," the police announced.

The 33-year-old has been criminally prosecuted for child abuse.
