New details have come to light from the seizure of a quantity of cocaine at the Port of Durres, weighing more than 41 kilograms, yesterday, while no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The container where the quantity of narcotics was found was loaded with chicken that had been shipped from Brazil to our country, ordered by the company AMG Food , owned by  Mondi Goxhaj .

According to the Durrës Police, the seized cocaine, if sold on the market, would have a value of around 2 million euros. The drugs were divided into 37 packages, while the container had left 62 days ago from Brazil.

The cargo documentation presented it as a container of frozen chicken.

It was during the inspection at the Port of Durres, by a Task Force specifically set up to seize narcotics, that the police found that 37 packages of narcotics were hidden in the outer lids of the container.

This has raised one of the main questions of the investigation: where were the drugs introduced and at what point in the journey was the container tampered with?

Another point that is expected to be clarified is whether the drugs were planted in Brazil or during one of the transit stops and who was the person or group that would receive the shipment in Albania.

The investigation must determine whether the drugs were placed in the container without the importer's knowledge or whether a more organized scheme is hidden behind the shipment.

Container routing

The journey began in Itajaí, where the container left Maersk's warehouse, Seara Hub Itajaí, empty on July 14, 2026. On July 29, it entered the JBS Terminais Itajaí terminal, and on August 5, it was loaded onto the MAERSK LOTA / 632N vessel.

The ship departed Itajaí on August 5 at 15:20, thus beginning the main part of the intercontinental voyage. After approximately 20 days of sailing, the MAERSK LOTA arrived at Port Tanger Med, Morocco, on August 24 at 20:58.

In Tanger Med, the container was unloaded and remained in port for about 8 days, before being loaded onto the LUNA MAERSK / 633E vessel on September 1. This vessel departed on September 2 at 04:48, bound for the Eastern Mediterranean.

On September 7, the container arrived in Piraeus, Greece, where it was unloaded from the LUNA MAERSK. After about a day and a half, on September 8, it was loaded onto the feeder vessel K OCEAN / 637N, which departed Piraeus on September 9 at 00:13.

The final destination was Durrës. The feeder K OCEAN arrived at the port of Durrës on 12 September at 17:43. The container was unloaded on 13 September at 11:49, while on 13 September at 23:00 it left the terminal. On 14 September, at 12:35, the final entry into the Durrës terminal was recorded.

From the departure of the first ship from Itajaí, on August 5 at 15:20, to the arrival of KOCEAN in Durrës on September 12 at 17:43, approximately 38 days and 2 hours have passed from the first sea departure to the arrival in the Albanian port.

But the container was not constantly at sea. Along the way, there were stops and operations at the ports of Tanger Med and Piraeus, where it was unloaded and reloaded onto other ships.

In total, from leaving the warehouse in Itajaí on July 14 to entering the Durrës terminal on September 14, the journey of this container lasted about 62 days.

The name of AMG Food had previously become known for another serious issue.

On March 11, 2025, the company imported a shipment of chicken meat from Brazil. According to data published by authorities and the media, laboratory tests found the presence of the bacterium Salmonella Typhimurium.

The officially reported quantity at that time was around 7.9-8 tons, while media sources reported that the total load of chicken fillet could reach up to 18.3 tons. The meat had arrived at the Port of Durrës on March 11. The AKU had taken samples for analysis and the ISUV laboratory issued the answer on March 21, finding salmonella.

According to the AMG Food company, the product was sold to 154 customers, and sales receipts were provided to enable its tracking and recall.

The AKU reported that around 4.5 tons had been withdrawn from the market, while the rest was being sought in various parts of the country./ Shekulli
