Casual sexual relations, the promiscuous life of young people in pubs or bars under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as well as knowing partners through applications has increased the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Infectious disease doctor Arjan Harxhi calls for attention, as STDs are diseases with serious health consequences for the individual, but also for society.

"There is an increase, especially this year, of syphilis with 30 new cases, and this is not only among risk groups who have homosexual relationships, but also among heterosexual relationships. We also caught chlamydia, gonorrhea, mycoplasma", explains Harxhi for Top Channel.

The increase in sexually transmitted diseases was found immediately after the Covid pandemic.

"The increase is also due to the lack of services and medication during the pandemic, but it is mainly related to dangerous behaviors. Short-term relationships, dating through applications, that is, an increase in risky sexual behaviors."

STDs, if diagnosed early, are treated, but in the case of pregnant girls, they affect fetal malformation or abortion. And while STDs are reported to be increasing throughout Europe, the Institute of Public Health in Albania has not published any report except for the alarm given by infectious disease doctors.
