The British court has sentenced an Albanian to 9 months in prison, after he was caught in a cannabis farm taking care of more than 500 cannabis plants, which, converted to market value, amounted to 275 thousand pounds of drugs.

Local media reports that it is about 28-year-old Kristian Zefi, who in Albania had the profession of a physical education teacher.

Zefi, an illegal immigrant who had entered Britain clandestinely, tried to escape from an upper floor window in a two-storey industrial building and jumped onto the roof of the next building.

Prosecutor Stephen Welch said police executed a search warrant for cannabis at the premises in Popple Street, Hull, a large two-storey industrial building with around 12 rooms.

“As the police attempted to gain entry, the defendant climbed out of an upstairs window onto a flat roof in an attempt to escape he became distressed and jumped onto the roof of an adjacent building. He also made a call from his mobile phone. In the building, police found more than 500 cannabis roots, with a market value of around £275,000, he said.

The prosecutor explained that the doors of the building were isolated, not to prevent Zefi from leaving, but to protect him and the cannabis from people who could attack him.

Persons entering or exiting the building, use the roof to exit.

In front of the officers, the Albanian declared that he had been trafficked to Britain and claimed that he had also been raped.

"He claimed he was being monitored to make sure he didn't leave," Mr Welch said.

Meanwhile, his lawyer stated that the physical education teacher had traveled to England in the back of a truck from France.

"He was tricked into thinking he was coming to the UK for a better life, working in the construction industry.

He was told the fee to bring him here was £25,000 and he couldn't afford to pay it back. This was also the moment when he started working in the cannabis factory to pay off the massive debt he had. This is a vulnerable man in a country. where he did not speak the language and had no knowledge of the location", she declared.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old also lost his father while he was in custody, but he had not been able to contact his family in Albania due to problems with the phone in prison.

"He wants to return home as soon as possible to help his mother," said the lawyer.

The British court sentenced Zefi to nine months in prison after pleading guilty.
