According to the agreement made between Albania and Great Britain, 200 Albanian convicts in the island state will be transferred to our country to serve their sentences.
Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja, invited to the 'Opinion' show, said that so far, about 25 Albanians convicted in Britain have asked to be transferred to Albania to serve their sentences.
The prison sentence given by the British authorities will be converted by the Albanian courts according to the law.
From this agreement with Britain, Albania has no costs, but all expenses are covered by the British side.
"This agreement will last 2 years. The agreement can be reviewed with British authority. It is about 200 Albanian convicts. The first requests that have come are about 25 Albanian citizens convicted in Britain who have given consent to convert the sentence and come to Albania. All expenses are covered by the British side. They will cover all expenses according to our standard. In addition, the agreement also provides for a grant that is not related to covering the costs, which is a bonus, about 5 million Euros that goes to strengthen the capacities in the systems of our penal institutions", said Minister Ulsi Manja.
