Albanian mafia in Ecuador, foreign media: They opened a school for contract

The Ecuadorian media have devoted another article to the influence that the Albanian mafia has on the political circles of the state in Latin America. Among others, Dritan Rexhepi is also mentioned, who is known as the head of an Albanian criminal group that deals with the distribution of narcotics in Ecuador.

"This group of drug traffickers has been established in the country since 2014. Whoever was identified as its leader is still in Ecuador and enjoys freedom," Ecuadorian media write.

Serrano sfidoi presidentin dhe e pyeti për njohuritë e tij për mafian shqiptare. 

“Ekuadori sot është vendi më i pasigurt në Amerikën Latine, 25 vdekje për 100 mijë banorë në menaxhimin tuaj të kotë, në menaxhimin tim 5 vdekje për 100 mijë banorë. Kush është Narco, që ia dorëzoi vendin Narkos? Mafia shqiptare, ju kujton gjë? ”, u shpreh Serrano

Ndër të tjera, në artikullin e medias ekuadoriane shkruhet se Serrano nuk ka sqaruar arsyen e referimit për mafian shqiptare. Megjithatë, kjo nuk është hera e parë që organizata kriminale hyn në radarin kombëtar apo politik të Ekuadorit.

From 2015 to 2021, Dritan Rexhepi, considered the "king" of the Albanian mafia in Ecuador, was imprisoned in Latacunga prison, from where he is suspected of directing all drug trafficking.

Roots in the past

There are many investigations carried out by the national and international media, as well as by international security organizations, which have discovered the operations of this criminal group in Ecuador.

Dritan Rexhepi, who has been identified as the leader of the gang, was arrested in 2014. He was caught with 278 kilograms of drugs and sentenced to 13 years in prison, which he served in the Deprivation Center in Cotopaxi. While the organization is suspected to have its roots in the year 2000.

Albanian mobsters arrive in Ecuador as businessmen who stay in expensive hotels and don't skimp on the show of luxurious life. But the main objective of their arrival in the country was to buy drugs at a low price by eliminating middlemen which brought them greater control of the distribution routes to Europe.

Mario Pazmiño, colonel (sp) and intelligence specialist, pointed out that, like other cartels, they are attracted to ports and drug sales points. "Albanian mafia comes a long time ago, because it started when this megastructure of organized crime was being developed", he emphasized.

For the journalist and criminal profiling specialist, Ana Minga, one of the main characteristics of the group "is that they work as a clan, a family".

The organization has already taken spaces in the coastal region of the country, and even captured enclaves in the city of Guayaquil, due to the vulnerability of the laws and the lack of action by the authorities, say specialists.

Children's school 'Hitman'

In recent investigations, alarms have been raised about a new modality within the organization, after verifying the existence of schools for contract killings for minors.

As Minga explains, this action allows criminals to keep their business afloat longer. He details that because of the criminal boom, "they need protection and therefore enter the business of paid murders, which is part of organized crime, and makes it more clear that there are schools for contract killings run by Albanians ; before, they were used by young people, but now they are 9 or 10-year-old children".

He pointed out that the recruitment of children for contract killings, from a criminal profiling perspective, allows the organization to target the group of minors because they are thought of as long-term 'servants'.

For his part, Pazmiño indicated that the use of minors is the best way to prevent these people from being prosecuted seriously and the greater application of the most drastic laws, when they use minors have other rules that do not imply a punishment so heavy. He said young people are much easier to recruit through money or drugs, and they are much more influential.
