Albanian Baki Goxhaj has left for Turkey on one of the planes made available by the Turkish government to transport activists detained by Israel.
According to sources from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, it is learned that he is on his way to Istanbul, where he will be received by the Albanian consul and then escorted to Albania.
Turkey was involved in special operations to return humanitarian activists from the "Sumud" flotilla, who had been held in Israel for 48 hours, after they were stopped about 450 kilometers off the coast of Gaza on Monday while transporting humanitarian aid.
Three planes provided by the Turkish state picked up hundreds of activists from Ramon Airport in Israel and are transporting them to Turkey.
The news was confirmed by Turkey's Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, who stated that the operations were undertaken following what he described as an illegal Israeli intervention against the Global Freedom Flotilla.
"As a result of the illegal interference with the 'Sumud' Global Fleet, we are working together with all relevant institutions to ensure the safety of our citizens who are being held and their safe return to the country."
"With the special flights to be organized today, we plan to bring our citizens, as well as activists from third countries, to Turkey. We will continue to protect the rights of our citizens and fulfill our humanitarian responsibility towards civilians in Gaza, while we will continue our resolute support for the Palestinian people," he wrote.
Israel stopped over 40 ships on Monday in international waters near Cyprus and arrested at least 430 activists on board, including Albanian activist Baki Goxhaj.
The detention of the activists of the "Sumud" humanitarian flotilla caused strong international reactions, especially after the publication of images by Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, showing the detained activists.
