Turkey was involved in special operations to return humanitarian activists from the Sumudt flotilla who had been held in Israel for 48 hours by security forces after they were captured 450 miles off the coast of Gaza on Monday as they headed towards the naval blockade to deliver humanitarian aid.

3 Turkish Airlines planes picked up hundreds of activists from the Israeli port of Ramon and are sending them to Turkey, among them Albanian  Baki Goxhaj .

The Albanian will be received in Istanbul by the Albanian consulate there and then will be escorted to Albania.

The news was confirmed by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who specified that the operations came after what he called an illegal intervention against the Global Freedom Flotilla by Israel.

"As a result of the illegal intervention against the Global Fleet "Sumud", we are working together with all relevant institutions to ensure the safety of our citizens who are being held and their safe return to the country. With the special flights to be organized today, we plan to bring our citizens, as well as activists from third countries, to Turkey. We will continue to protect the rights of our citizens and fulfill our humanitarian responsibility towards civilians in Gaza, while we will continue our resolute support for the Palestinian people," he wrote.

Israel stopped more than 40 ships on Monday in international waters near Cyprus and detained at least 430 activists on board the ships. Among them was Albanian activist Baki Goxhaj.

The detention of activists from the global humanitarian flotilla Sumud sparked deep global outrage, especially after Wednesday when Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gvir shared scandalous images on his social media, showing the mistreated activists and the minister himself mocking them.
