The Special Appeal rejected again the request of the former head of the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH), Evis Berberi, to change the security measure.

Berberi asked for a lighter measure than that of "prison arrest," but this request was not taken into account by judge Saida Dollani.

The former head of ARRSH has been in custody since March 16 of this year. Together with him, Valter Begaj and Ervis Lami were also arrested. The latter was acquitted by the court of first instance, but the Special Appeal returned him to the cell again, after appealing the decision by the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK).

SPAK's investigations revealed that Berberi, while he was in charge of the Agency for Energy Efficiency and then at ARRSH, had awarded six tenders to the company of his partner, Valter Begaj. The profits from these tenders ended up with the company he owned indirectly.

The two businessmen, Lami and Begaj, are suspected of having, in cooperation with Berberi, made a fictitious sale of the company of the former head of ARRSH, as well as other fictitious actions to hide the crime of corruption.

The investigations showed that the benefit from this scheme amounts to about 2.2 million euros, which were invested by the company "DAAM" shpk in real estate.
