Another shipment of vegetables from Albania has been blocked in Croatia due to containing banned pesticides.
The shipment consisted of peppers, which after analysis resulted in residues of Flonicamid, Chlorfenapyr and Tebufenpyrad, chemical substances banned in European Union markets beyond permitted levels.
The news was made public by sources close to the Croatian food control authorities, while there is still no official reaction from the National Food Authority (AKU) in Albania.
Currently, it is not known how much of the blocked cargo was, while Albanian institutions are expected to react to this case, which comes at a sensitive period for Albanian agricultural exports to EU markets.
The incident comes after several similar cases in recent months, where other agricultural products from Albania have been returned from countries such as Croatia, Italy and Greece, due to pesticides outside the permitted norms.
We recall that according to the RASFF system (EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed), Albania is among the countries with the highest number of warnings for agricultural products with hazardous chemical residues.
