The GJKKO will review today, August 15, at 10:00, the request of former President Ilir Meta to change the security measure "prison arrest". The request will be reviewed by Judge Erjon Çela, this because last week Judge Erjon Bani declared incompetence.

The previous session was postponed precisely because of the request of Ilir Meta's lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, who requested that the issue of the security measure be reviewed by the lawyer who followed the file in the initial investigation, Erjon Çela, and not by the special judge Erjon Bani.

Judge Çela was on vacation last week, and for this reason, the review of the request was assigned to Bani as an available judge. But the latter declared incompetence.

Ilir Meta is seeking to be released from prison on the grounds that there is no longer a risk of evidence being tampered with since the investigations against him have been closed and the case has been sent to trial. On August 4, SPAK officially notified Ilir Meta of the closure of the investigations and the transfer of the case to court.

The former president is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets, for matters related to the LSI lobbying file in the US and the CEZ-DIA affair. He was arrested on October 21, 2024 and has been in pre-trial detention since then.
