"Air Albania's" Fishta ends in... Moscow

The Airbus A320, which flew in the Air Albania fleet until two years ago, has been transferred to the ownership of the Russian airline North-West Air Company and arrived in Moscow on May 15 with the registration RA-73899.

According to data from the Planespotters database, it is an Airbus A320-232 with serial number 4934, manufactured in 2011. The aircraft was initially delivered to Etihad Airways, where it carried the registration A6-EIO.

During 2022, the aircraft was transferred to the ownership of the American leasing company GA Telesis, and since March 2023, it has flown for Air Albania under the registration ZA-MMK and the name "Fishta W".

According to Planespotters, the aircraft made its last commercial flight in Air Albania colors on July 22, 2024. The next day, it flew to Istanbul, where it was stored, and during 2025, it was officially returned to its owner.

On April 14, 2026, the aircraft flew from Istanbul to Muscat (MCT) in Oman, and on May 15, it made a delivery flight to Moscow Vnukovo (VKO), where it received the Russian registration RA-73899. Planespotters states that the Muscat-Vnukovo flight was operated as a delivery flight for the new operator.

This is not the first Airbus that North-West Air Company has introduced into its fleet since the start of Western sanctions against Russia. In 2024, the company also took delivery of an Airbus A320neo with serial number 8774.

News of the aircraft's arrival was first reported by the specialized Telegram channel Aviation Mezzanine, while Planespotters confirms the change in registration, operator, and delivery flight date.

After the start of the war in Ukraine, Russia was prohibited from legally purchasing new Airbus and Boeing aircraft, as well as from receiving leasing, spare parts and maintenance services from the West, foreign media report . 

Despite this, Russian airlines still manage to buy Western-made aircraft through intermediaries and transactions involving third countries such as Turkey and Oman.
