On the day of Kurban Bayram, we came to visit the house of Shpresa Muça, a 75-year-old pensioner, who will tell us details about how this day is celebrated and how this holiday has changed over the years.
"On Kurban Bayram, a cattle is slaughtered and most of it is sacrificed in the ovens, but this is not happening anymore, since no one loves the poor. The family has shrunk a lot, people have fled us in emigration, but the heart has also shrunk.
Earlier, my brothers and sisters used to gather here, there were 20 of us. After celebrating in our homes, we visited each other. Today we lack all of these. When we were little, we couldn't wait for Eid. We used to wake up and find new clothes under the pillow and go out and knock on people's doors singing tiritam-tiritam, today is Eid. Today there is no more. I personally go out and buy candies and chocolates and give them to the neighborhood children. Today, love and that knocking of people on the door to come and wish you Happy is missing.
During the dictatorship, I celebrated it secretly in my family. Don't snort, I told the children. I have never made a sacrifice, because people who have money make sacrifices. I didn't have the opportunities, I had 4 children. There is an expression that says when you go to beg from the poor, take the big sack because he gives you everything, when you go to the rich, take a small one, because the poor one doesn't give you anything." - said Shpresa Muça Bulku, pensioner./TCH
