Albania joined other countries of the world today on International Ozone Day, with a rich program of awareness-raising activities in schools, universities and community centers.

Through art, sports and education, young Albanians conveyed the message of protecting the ozone layer and the climate, proving that environmental education is an investment for the present and the future, which makes young people active actors of change.

This year, the whole world marks the 40th anniversary of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, which, together with the Montreal Protocol, has been called the most successful environmental agreement in history.

Thanks to science and shared political decisions, the use of ozone-depleting substances has been significantly reduced, putting the ozone layer on the path to recovery.

The ozone agreements have proven that moving from science to global action is possible and remain an inspiring example for addressing other environmental challenges.

Albania is part of international efforts and has successfully implemented its commitments. The country has managed to significantly reduce the consumption of HCFCs (ozone-depleting gases) and is moving towards their complete elimination by 2030.

Albania is also committed to implementing the Kigali Amendment, part of the Montreal Protocol, which aims to gradually reduce HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons), very potent greenhouse gases used mainly in refrigeration and air conditioning technologies.

It is expected that, starting in 2029, Albania will begin the gradual reduction of HFCs. The final objective is to reduce HFC consumption by 85% by 2045.

Globally, the ozone layer is expected to fully recover by 2060 and measures taken under the Kigali Amendment, combined with energy efficiency in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector, are expected to contribute to reducing global temperatures by about 1°C within a few decades.

This success is a clear testament to the power of science and international cooperation and a reminder that with shared will and action, it is possible to protect the climate and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.

At the "Petro Nini Luarasi" high school, one of the elite schools in the capital, the National Ozone Unit held an information activity and a symbolic basketball match that united students in a common message for environmental protection.

Students from the Metropolitan University of Tirana participated in an awareness-raising session, discussing the role of science and innovation in finding climate solutions and ozone-friendly technologies.

Part of the activities organized by the National Ozone Unit was an exhibition of paintings created by students from several 9-year schools in Tirana.

Through artistic imagination, students expressed their sensitivity to protecting nature through the protection of the ozone layer.

Meanwhile, an educational workshop was held at the Children's Cultural Center on the importance of the ozone layer as a natural shield for life.

These activities of the National Ozone Unit in Albania combined creativity, sport and science, transforming Ozone Day into a celebration of knowledge, creativity and commitment to the environment, but also into a moment of reflection and action for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
