Socialist MP Zegjine Çaushi has reacted with a public statement regarding her uncle's involvement in a case of violence and rape alleged by 34-year-old Merita Gremaj and the injury of the latter's father.
She posted a photo of her uncle with Gremaj, where they appear embraced, while she holds a bouquet of flowers in her hand.
The MP reveals her acquaintance with Gremaj, saying that the latter, along with her uncle, have told her that they have decided to get married, despite the 34-year-old's father's objections.
"Referring to the event that occurred in the village of Suk 2 and published by the media on 14.09.2026 and 15.09.2026, I would like to clarify public opinion regarding the information provided so far.
My mother's family consists of 11 children: 9 sisters and 2 brothers. They all have their own families, jobs, and lives, so naturally we don't have constant, uninterrupted contact with each other.
I met my mother's brother, Bledar Bakaj, together with Mrs. Merita Gremaj, by chance after a meeting I had in that area, at the beginning of June. I passed by the apartment and saw relatives and neighbors, about 10-15 people, in the yard of the apartment. I even met a cousin there, who Merita Gremaj considered to be a close relative from her father's tribe.
As soon as I entered the yard, I saw Merita, who introduced herself to me as Bledari's roommate. I obviously congratulated them on their relationship, as the neighbors who were present were also doing the same, and then, like me, my cousin and I turned to her: "Have you made up your minds? Will you get married?"
Merita Gremaj said: "Yes, yes, I have taken into account the conditions in which Bledari lives, even though his father doesn't like it..."
"Don't cause us any problems," I said after her words, referring to my father's consent. The matter was resolved with laughter and congratulations from the people present.
I stayed for about 10 minutes and moved on to my own commitments, the others continued to stay.
After a few days, I saw photos of them together on social media, smiling and holding flowers.
This is all the information I had and have regarding their relationship. I was informed about this event through the media, just like the public opinion.
I want to say it very clearly: I strongly condemn any form of VIOLENCE, regardless of WHO it is perpetrated by.
At the same time, I think this is a case that should be treated seriously and carefully, also from a psychological perspective, for both people, with the aim of finding the right solution and preventing any further escalation.
"For the rest, law enforcement agencies must do their job," the MP writes.
