Sniper assassination attempt on Gazmir Daci, the Supreme Court returns Ergys

The Supreme Court has decided to retry the case of Ergys Kolaveri, overturning the decision against him on October 26, 2022 by the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, through which he was declared innocent.

Journalist Anila Hoxha reports that the decision was made today and is expected to be returned for retrial by another panel in the same court.

The appeal granted freedom to Ergys Kolaveri, sentenced to 20 years in prison for the sniper assassination of Gazmir Daci. On July 30, 2016, Kolaveri organized a sniper assassination of Gazmir Daci, an event that occurred inside the Vaqarr prison. At the time of the incident, Daci was going outside the prison when he was targeted by a sniper from a hill in the area.

However, the targeting did not go as planned, as the bullet did not hit the target, Daci, but a convicted person from Kosovo. The assassination in question is suspected to have been carried out for revenge motives, after Daci took the life of Gazmir Kolaveri and wounded Robert Kolaveri, brothers of Ergys Kolaveri.

Accused of this event by the former Kolaveri Serious Crimes Prosecutor's Office, against whom charges of "Attempted Murder for Blood Feud", "Intentional Serious Injury", "Unlicensed Possession and Production of Weapons, Explosive Weapons and Ammunition" and "Unlicensed Production, Possession, Purchase or Sale of Cold Weapons" were formalized, for blood feud motives against citizen Daci.

The acquittal he received in 2020 from the decision sealed by the Appeals Court has been called into question after six years, as Kolaver's file was recently returned for retrial. It remains to be seen how the legal proceedings against Ergys Kolaver will proceed.
