INSTAT has published today the preliminary data of the 2023 Census.
From the population data, there are 2,402,113 inhabitants in Albania.
An average family is reported to have 3.2 members, according to INSTAT, while the numbered dwellings are 1.08 million.
As other Census data are expected to be released, the shrinking of the population is worrying.
The last census carried out in Albania was on October 1, 2011, where the population of Albania was 2,821,977 inhabitants.
So, over the course of 12 years, there has been a contraction of 14.52% or 419,831 fewer inhabitants.
The two main causes of this population decline are the high level of emigration, which takes the main weight, and the reduction in the number of births.
The 2023 Population and Housing Census is the 12th Census, since Albania was declared an independent state in 1912, when the first Census was carried out in 1923.
