Three weeks after the murder of Elton Çiço, the investigation takes concrete shape. Tirana Police, after documenting the dynamics of the event and analyzing the film evidence, announce two people wanted: Jani Alina as the suspected perpetrator of the execution and Renato Miloš as an accomplice.

The investigation that began with the murder of Elton Çiço revealed the wider network involved in this cycle of revenge.

One of the suspected accomplices in Çiçë's execution was Nelgert Pata, a close friend of Jani Aliaj, who was executed five months later in Fier. This connection shows a clear line of revenge and planning between the characters involved in the conflict.

"Nelgert Papa was a close associate of Jani Aliaj, while the other person was a close social associate of Elton Çiçë. Both of these events are unfortunately unsolved, but from the dynamics and circumstances it is suspected that they are related to the same events," said lawyer Gjergj Nikolli.

"The origin of this conflict is certainly the groups of Tepelena, where it is suspected that Nelget Pata was part of the group opposing Elton Çiço," said journalist Xhevahir Zhabina.

According to police reports, Elton Çiço controlled the movements of Nelgert Pata and Jani Aliaj through the citizen with the initials OK, a close social connection of the victim.

The file states that, after being threatened with death by Aliaj and Pata, citizen OK confirmed to them that he was controlling their movements on behalf of the late Çiço.

But with the elimination of Elton Çiço, known as a drug lord in Tepelena with powerful connections, his friends did not sit idly by. They had sworn to eliminate all their opponents one by one in revenge.

At least 3 assassination attempts were carried out against Nelgert Pata, events that are suspected to have been perpetrated by Elton Çiço's people.

"There was an assassination attempt on him in the area of ​​the "Palace of Arrows" with a sniper, it was a story that received a lot of media attention at the time, as it happened in the middle of Tirana, but fortunately Pata managed to escape that assassination, and then of course this character was the focus of his opponents and was followed foot by foot to reach the event in the forest where he was executed," said journalist Xhevahir Zhabina.

On August 21, 2016, a sniper shot near a luxury complex in Tirana where Nelgert Pata was staying, but the target escaped with only a scratch on his ear.

On November 17, 2016, he escaped a second assassination attempt in Fier. But the assassins did not leave him alone. The third attempt, on November 20, 2016 in Fier, would be fatal for the 34-year-old.

Edhe pse përdorte një makinë të blinduar dhe xhama të errët, ditën e ekzekutimit e kishte lënë atë të parkuar në hotelin ku qëndronte. Sipas të dhënave hetimore, atentati ishte rezultat i hakmarrjeve që kishin nisur në Tepelenë mes dy grupeve rivale, atë të Elton Çiçës dhe Jani Aliajt.

“Anëtarët e këtij grupi të madh ishte e vështirë shumë të identifikoje persona konkret të cilët ishin involvuar në këto ngjarje sepse edhe masat që ato merrnin, ku pas atentatit digjnin automjetet siç ndodh edhe sot që shumë ngjarje janë ende të pazbuluara sepse autorët i marrin masat në mënyrë të atillë që mos të zbulohen nga autoritet”, u shpreh Gjergj Nikolli, avokat.

“Për policinë, nga informacionet që kishte policia në atë kohë ai njihej, po them për konfliktin e tij me Elton Çiçan, por edhe me afërsinë që ai kishte me Jani Aliajin, dhe kjo bëri që policia të fokusoj në atë kohë në këtë drejtim, për të zbardhur këto ngjarje, por nuk arriti të siguronte prova dhe të lidhte Elton Çiçën”u shpreh gazetari  Xhevahir Zhabina.

Pata, megjithëse i vetëdijshëm për rrezikun, nuk u dorëzua; ai telefonoi Policinë kur pa persona të dyshimtë duke e ndjekur në Tiranë dhe më pas në Fier, por shërbimet e rendit nuk arritën kurrë të parandalonin sulmin.

Makina në të cilën Pata mbante armët dhe planifikonte lëvizjet e tij, një “Benz S-Class” me targa të vjedhura, u gjet e braktisur në parkingun e hotelit.

Brenda saj ishin dy automatikë model 56, kalibër 7.62 mm, dhe një shishe benzinë 1.5 litërshe, duke i vërtetuar hetuesve se edhe ai vetë ishte në kërkim të kundërshtarëve.

Me të njëjtën makinë, por me targa të ndryshuara, Pata kishte udhëtuar më parë nga Gjirokastra në Tiranë, kur iu bë atentati i parë.

“Policia e ka shumë të vështirë për të zbuluar ngjarjen kriminale, pavarësisht se mund të ketë të dhëna operative, nuk e diskutoj, pasi ka informacione operative, nga shërbimi informativ, nga rrjeti i agjenturës që ka në terren e të gjitha me rradhë. Por, operacionet operative, jo në të gjitha rastet bëhet dosje hetimore, sepse një dosje hetimore në zbardhjen e një vepre penale duhet të kemi prova” u shpreh avokati, Indrit Sefa.

“Dukshëm që Elton Çiça kishte në atë kohë mbështetje shumë të madhe, kjo edhe për shkak të njohjeve që kishte në policinë e shtetit, por edhe për shkak të aktivitetit të tij kriminal. Kjo periudhë ishte periudha e revanshit të grupit të Elton Çiças, por sot që flasim që të dy këto fraksione të këtyre grupeve asnjëri prej tyre nuk jeton më”, u shpreh gazetari Xhevahir Zhabina.

Në ekzekutimin që e përfundoi historinë e tij, mbeti i plagosur edhe miku i tij, Ari Alinani, 38 vjeç, i cili kishte marrë makinën nga vetë Pata dhe kishte pasur komunikime të vazhdueshme me të, sipas tabulateve telefonike.
