Ilir Kupa appealed to the High Court, where he requested the annulment of the order of the Ministry of Justice, which placed him in the 41-biss regime.
Kupa was put under this regime last December by order of the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, after a "Smart Watch" watch and a mobile phone were found in his cell.
Prisoner Ilir Kupa appealed Manja's decision to the Special Court on January 9, 2024. Kupa claimed that he had introduced the watch with the commission of the prison directorate in the environment where he is serving his sentence and used it to measure steps.
The authorities claim otherwise, who have doubts that the person sentenced to 25 years in prison was in contact with the outside world.
Ilir Kupa was sentenced by Serious Crimes to 25 years in prison for 6 criminal offenses related to a series of robberies.
Ilir Kupa is known as the person who was part of the so-called "Gang of Grandfathers", suspected of a series of robberies in our country.
Among the places that fell prey to the robbery was a shopping center in Tirana, an event that happened just before the New Year.
He is also a well-known name in Greek justice. Kupa famously escaped from Trikala Prison in 2013, leading to a series of dismissals of Hellenic prison officials.
After his arrest in 2014, Kupa was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Ilir Kupa, Agustin Sula, Fatmir Pjetri, Julian Qerushi, Dritan Kola, Saimir Kala, Hajdar Sefa, Mark Shpendi, Edmond Selala, Lin Kala and Angjelin Ndreka participated in the "Band of Grandfathers" .
