Prime Minister Edi Rama has spoken about negotiations regarding the development of Sazan Island, focusing on water and electricity supply.

Rama said that the issue of the water supply and electricity line to the island remains one of the most difficult points of the negotiations, as according to him, Albania cannot finance such investments with state money.

"This issue of water and electricity is the Achilles' heel of the negotiations, because from the very beginning our position has been very clear, we cannot invest in the water supply and the electricity line of Sazan, to take it from the seashore to the island, because no one would understand how in a country where there are still villages, or there are inhabited territories of the suburbs where investments in water supply and electricity supplies need to be made, to invest with state money for this," Rama said on the podcast "Flasim shqip".

The Prime Minister emphasized that this is a point where the Albanian government has not made concessions, while the other side, according to him, has a problem due to the cost.

"This is a point of negotiation that we have not dropped and they have a problem with it because it is expensive. They are not buying the island and they are not taking ownership of the island, since the Republic of Albania is a partner."

Rama also spoke about the communication with Jared Kushner at the start of this process, emphasizing that the relationship between the parties is based on law and rules.

"There is another thing I want to emphasize, Kushner, at the moment this process began he told me: Everything according to the book, according to the law, according to the rules, so at this point I am very clear, you are who you are, I am the prime minister of the Albanians, I accept that you look me in the eye, and from above you cannot see me, America may be very big, but when it comes to what we represent, you have your place, I have mine."
