The Swedish ambassador meets Rama, asks for Albania's vote to join NATO
Meeting between the Swedish Ambassador and Prime Minister Rama

Sweden's Ambassador to Albania, Elsa Hasted, held a meeting today with Prime Minister Edi Rama. The Swedish Embassy informs through a post on social networks that the ambassador has informed the head of the Albanian government about Sweden's application to join NATO, where he has asked him to vote.

"This is a historic moment. Meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama, informing about Sweden's decision to submit an application for NATO membership. "Thank you, Prime Minister, for the very good and supportive meeting!", Reads the announcement of the embassy.

The Swedish government has previously announced that Sweden has decided to apply for NATO membership. "The government's assessment is that NATO membership is the best way to protect Sweden's security in light of the fundamentally changed security environment following the Russian invasion of Ukraine," the statement said.

According to them, this decision is based on a "security analysis" in which the government invited "other parliamentary parties to participate". Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said Sweden should join NATO along with neighboring Finland to "ensure the security of the Swedish people".
