The communist regime has fallen for 35 years, but former collaborators continue to appear in Albanian society.

The annual report of the Files Authority highlights that from the checks carried out last year, 15 cases have resulted in former collaborators being proposed for election or appointment to high public positions or even their names being suggested for honorary titles and decorations.

Of the 15 candidates who appear with findings, 12 of them belong to verification procedures according to the object of the municipalities' requests as collaborators, assistant judges and one as a witness, so they are citizens proposed for naming streets, spaces or decoration and granting honorary titles.

If to become part of the public administration you have to pass the filter of the purity of your image, to be elected as a deputy, obtaining the certificate from the File Authority remains a matter of personal will.

The annual report shows that out of 53 political parties that competed in the 2025 parliamentary elections, only six candidates have addressed the authority.

Despite letters addressed to all political entities, only 6 candidates have submitted a request for verification on their own initiative.
