Van Gaal, Fifa's shocking accusation: Messi should have won the World Cup.
Louis van Gaal and Messi

Former Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has made a strong allegation that the Qatar 2022 World Cup was rigged to help Lionel Messi win the trophy.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner led Argentina to glory in December 2022, scoring twice in the 4-2 final against France at the Lusail Stadium.

The Albiceleste defeated Van Gaal's Netherlands in the quarterfinals.

A tense challenge, decided only by penalties and characterized by many moments of tension, including the confrontation between the Dutch coach and the Argentine star Lionel Messi.

"I don't want to talk too much about it! When you look at how Argentina scores goals and how we score goals and how some Argentine players crossed the line and were not punished, then I think everything was premeditated. What do I mean? That Messi had to become world champion? I think so, yes!”

The statement of the former "Tulips" technician was made during the "Eredivisie" awards ceremony, where the 72-year-old was appreciated for his contribution to Dutch football.
