FIFA: World Cup final half-time break to be 17 minutes

FIFA has revealed one of the most discussed details on the eve of the grand final of the 2026 World Cup between Spain and Argentina, which will take place this Sunday at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The break between the two halves of the final will not be longer than usual and will last only 17 minutes, according to the official announcement from the tournament organizers.

This is just two minutes longer than the standard half-time in a football match, as defined by IFAB regulations.

FIFA has announced that the musical performances scheduled during the break will last around 11 minutes, while the remaining time will be used for stage set-up and tear-down, as well as pitch maintenance, including watering the grass.

The decision comes after much discussion about the World Cup final's spectacular ceremony and the impact it could have on the pace of the match. Spain and Argentina will therefore have a slightly longer break than a normal match, but not an extended break that could significantly alter the tactical flow of the final.
