The news that came from Austria the day before is now official. Ralf Rangnick has been appointed the coach of the Austrian national team, while he will continue to work as a consultant at Manchester United.

Rangnick's contract with the Austrian Football Federation will last until 2024. His contract will automatically be extended for another two years if Austria qualifies for the 2026 World Cup.

Germany, after his official appointment as Austria coach, said: "I will take the post of coach of the Austrian National Team at the end of the season, but I will continue to be a consultant at Manchester United. "I can't wait to play my part in helping United become a great football force again."

Manchester United appointed German Rangnick in November 2021, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but he took over the post temporarily. At the end of the season, Rangnic will be followed by Dutchman Erik ten Hag.

Rangnick has won just 10 of his 26 games at the helm of United. After the last two losses in the Premier League against Liverpool and United, the "Red Devils" have lost hope of participating in the Champions next season.
