The rotation of Albanian ambassadors in Pristina and Skopje was preceded by a hearing session in the Parliament.

Denion Meidani, proposed as a diplomat in Kosovo, has decided to follow in the footsteps of his father, the former president.

"Five member states, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain, have not recognized Kosovo's independence. Since the status of a candidate country requires unanimity, without these five recognitions, Kosovo's European path remains blocked at its very doorstep. For me, this mandate has a personal weight that I do not want to hide.

"In the spring of 1999, when Kosovo was going through its darkest hours, my father, Rexhep Meidani, promised that Albania would remain open. For me, now representing Albania in Pristina is a great honor. I carry my father's DNA with me," he said.

But his mandate begins in a climate of political and institutional debates over amending the law on the Special Court:

"We support the Appeals process with the unwavering conviction that the liberation character of the Kosovo war cannot be questioned. The amendments to the law on the Specialist Chambers are a sovereign decision of the Kosovo institutions and, evidently, the popular will. We will pursue them in close coordination with our partners."

Petrit Malaj, who is leaving Pristina to be ambassador to Skopje, used diplomacy to sting his predecessor.

"I will not be the ambassador who does not interfere in the internal politics of North Macedonia, but I will be the ambassador who, in every institutional communication, will support and demand respect for the Constitution and the Ohrid Agreement," Malaj said.

Beyond the insults, Malaj listed respecting the rights of Albanians in North Macedonia as a priority:

"Here I would make an important distinction. Being on the side of the Albanians does not mean being against the Macedonians. On the contrary, protecting the rights of Albanians should be part of protecting the multiethnic and democratic character of the state itself."

The two ambassadors, before taking up their new duties, must first be decreed by the President of the Republic.
