Senior State Department official Verma arrives in Albania, explains reasons for visit

The US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard R. Verma, arrived in Albania today, beginning his visit to the three Balkan countries, Albania, Kosovo and Serbia.

Upon arriving in Tirana, Verma published photographs on which he wrote that he had landed in "beautiful Albania", while also explaining the purpose of his visit.

"I landed in beautiful Albania! Happy to begin my visit and work with our partners to strengthen democracy, security, and support those in need," he wrote.

He will stay in Albania, Kosovo and Serbia from January 7 to 11.

As the US State Department announced, in Tirana, he will discuss Albania's democratic progress, defense capabilities, and deepening economic ties with the United States, and will thank "the Government of Albania for its continued support for our Afghan allies."
