Rama against the Russian embassy: The fugitives who named the street "Free
Edi Rama

The Russian Embassy in Tirana clarified a few days ago that the relocation of the headquarters in Mjull Bathore to "Dervish Shaba" street did not happen because the street where the first building was located was named "Free Ukraine", but added that the new embassy building it was opened in the presence of the media as early as September 2019, but the full relocation was only possible in June 2022 due to the delay of construction works in the period of the pandemic.

However, it seems that this reasoning did not convince Prime Minister Edi Rama, who still believes that the relocation of the Russian embassy was done because of the naming of the street "Free Ukraine".

In an interview on a British radio, with journalists Alaister Campbell and Rory Stewart, Rama said that the mayor of Tirana, Erion veliaj, intends to move the name of the street near the Russian diplomatic mission in Albania after moving the embassy.

"We don't have a Russian presence in any way, except for an embassy, which has recently moved its headquarters, because we named the street where the Russian embassy was located with the name "Free Ukraine" and that's why they moved at another address. I found out now that the mayor of Tirana intends to move the name again near the new headquarters of their embassy. So let's see what will happen", said Rama.

With a unanimous decision a few months ago, the City Council of the capital named "Free Ukraine" the street in front of the former Russian embassy, where the embassies of Ukraine, Kosovo and Serbia are also located.
