From housing the Jews to the pact with Melon, Rama at the UN: We don't deal
Edi Rama at the UN

At the General Assembly of the United Nations, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the world today is gripped by crises and complex conflicts. To overcome this, he said, more tolerance and reaching out to each other is needed.

Prime Minister Rama took Albania there as an example, mentioning from the shelter of the Jews to the pact with Meloni.

"As we meet here today, we face another year of complex crises and conflicts, and a divided world. Our prospects for a just world are dim today. These are challenging times. A few days ago we committed to the pact for the future, a solid framework with a high level of ambition and results to be implemented. We paid the price, this is another chance we take under pressure for a more uncertain future.

Albania humbly joins this discussion. Today more than ever we need tolerance and an outstretched hand of friendship towards each other. By tolerance I do not mean complacency and to go beyond comfort zones, to tolerate with respect, not simply by accepting the other's points of view, but by constantly engaging with the complexity of our own stories. For us Albanians, tolerance is not simply the passive and weak acceptance of one's diversity, this form of tolerance that Albanians, Muslims and Christians expressed during the Second World War against the Jews, putting their lives at risk, and doing Albania, the only country in Europe that ended the war with more Jews than it had when the war started, requires its own partisan spirit, seeks to continue building bridges so that we can continue to debate and promote further understanding and peace, by put yourself in another's place.

We gave shelter to several thousand Iranian refugees whose lives were in danger every day in Iraq. We paid a very high price for their hospitality. The totalitarian regime of Tehran engaged in a massive cyber attack against Albania. They were brutal enough, but failed miserably. We did not hesitate, and we will not hesitate to accommodate those people in our country, but for as long as it is necessary. Our hospitality is not related to any political stance towards Iran, but only to the humanist conviction engraved in our soul as a nation. We recently reached out to our neighbors, Italy, to ease the migration situation. Instead of talking, we acted, we didn't stand idly by and try. This being of solidarity, cooperation and good neighborly relations is actually the axis of politics in our Western Balkans region", said Rama.
