Former President Ilir Meta has reacted to the news of the removal of Sali Berisha's wife's name, emphasizing that a decision that was a mafia conspiracy to annihilate political pluralism in Albania has been undone.  

In a post on social media, Meta writes that "I cannot take any umbrage with the public stance I took five years ago, as President of the Republic, regarding the mafia conspiracy that aimed not only to annihilate political pluralism in Albania, but also to poison the historical and strategic relations between Albania and the United States of America."

According to him, "the McGonigal affair explains very clearly all the scandals that the corrupt Charles McGonigal financed to destroy pluralism and the opposition in Albania by misusing corrupt officials like McGonigal and many others."
