Vangjel Tavo took office as mayor of Himara Municipality, in the Vlora Region, on September 30, 2024, after winning the by-elections held on August 4.

From the first day of his mandate, he emphasized a new and previously unknown model of community service, aiming to restore faith and hope to the residents of Himara.

For the first time, the doors of the municipality are always open to citizens, while Tavo himself welcomes dozens of people to his office every day. An example worthy of being followed by every local leader.

During the campaign, he promised that he would not be just a "bureaucratic figure," but an active mayor, present every day, close to residents and ready to listen to their needs.

Active Himara: No longer just a summer destination

Thanks to his work, Himara is no longer perceived as just a seasonal destination, but as a dynamic municipality year-round, welcoming residents and visitors from all over the world.

Since taking office, year-end celebrations have been organized on a new level: New Year's Santa Claus coming from the sea with gifts for children, grand parties, and concerts with the country's most famous artists.

Likewise, the opening of the tourist season has received national attention, consolidating new traditions within a few months.

With concrete promises and a clear approach oriented towards public service, Tavo positions himself not only as a politician, but as a dedicated representative of the community.

Since the beginning of his mandate, Tavo has promoted several initiatives and plans aimed at changing the concept of Himara as a coastal city, a municipality and a community.

365 days of tourism and respect for the identity of Himara

Tourism promotion and development projects have been extremely successful. In November 2025, Tavo represented Himara at the Tirana International Fair, where he stated that the goal is to transform Himara into a 12-month tourist destination.

It has focused on rehabilitating roads, modernizing tourist areas, protecting the environment, and strengthening community cohesion.

One of the most important measures has been the order to suspend construction work in the tourist area from June 15 to September 15, to preserve the landscape, nature, and comfort of tourists and residents.

With this decision, Tavo gave a clear message: he is not against development, but for development that respects the environment and the unique identity of Himara.

With these initiatives, he has brought a modern vision for Himara, a tourist municipality with tradition, protected nature and a community that places the well-being of its residents at the center./ ilcorrierenazionale
