The European Union has raised expectations for accelerating the negotiation process with Albania, emphasizing the need to close the accession chapters as soon as possible.

EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, during a visit to Slovakia, stated that Albania has opened all negotiation chapters and that Brussels' goal is for the process to move at a rapid pace towards their conclusion.

"Can you imagine? Since 2009, the EU has been starting work on a new accession treaty for Montenegro. With Albania, we have opened all the negotiating chapters and I hope to move forward to close them as soon as possible... We want all the countries in the region to become full members of the EU," Kos said.

She stressed that enlargement remains a strategic priority of the European Union, adding that candidate countries must continue reforms and approximation with European laws and values.

Kos also mentioned a possible political deadline, noting that the period of the beginning of the next decade, including 2030, could mark a turning point for the EU enlargement process.

Albania has set the objective of closing all group chapters by the end of 2027, after fulfilling around 101 remaining tasks.

Albania aims to sign the EU accession treaty in 2028, while full membership in the EU will take place by 2030.
