Mereme Sela is officially disqualified from the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party, as in addition to the commission established in the DP, the Tirana Court has also closed the door to her appeal, in fact revealing major irregularities in the lawsuit.

According to the decision taken on May 8, by Judge Suela Xhani, the plaintiff Mereme Sela has not clearly specified in the request the name, patronymic, surname and other data that serve to identify the plaintiff.

Also, a valid means of identification, in the form required by law, was not attached to the lawsuit.

But that's not all. The court says that it turns out that the defendant is a legal entity and, consequently, its name must be clearly defined, as it appears in public registers, also indicating the headquarters or central office where the notification will be made.

Thirdly, the Tirana Court has found that the plaintiff has not paid the court fee and the claim has not clearly set out the circumstances of the fact and the facts that are required to be proven in this trial.

"Finally, it turns out that the evidentiary acts attached to the lawsuit, including decision no. 120 dated 01.05.2026 "On the review and approval of candidacies for chairman of the DPA" of the Commission for the Organization and Control of Electoral Operations, are photocopies, not identical to the original or original and consequently not in the form required by law," the Court's decision states.

Mereme Sela and Vladimir Mulaj, the two formal candidates who registered to run against Sali Berisha and take over the Democratic Party throne, were disqualified on May 1 by the DP's Electoral Operations Commission.

Now, Sali Berisha remains alone in the so-called "race" for the leadership of the largest opposition party.

Ervin Salianji, Evi Kokalari and Alesia Balliu also submitted their candidacies, but they were rejected because, in addition to the record 24-hour deadline to submit their candidacies, when they went to the headquarters, they were only confronted by the guard.
