Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha, in his next speech that took place this Monday in front of the Prime Minister's Office building, thanked the citizens who participated in the protest, describing them as "courageous" and "invincible" in the face of what he called a "dictatorship."
The democratic leader declared that opposition supporters are writing "a bright chapter of national history" through their resilience and determination.
"Good evening and warmest greetings! The most boundless gratitude, to you men and women, young men and women, the elderly, who are writing with your courage, with your perseverance, with your determination and invincible spirit, a bright chapter of our national history. You are rising up, giants, courageous against a dictatorship based on the theft of Albanians, based on drugs, crime, terrorizing citizens, their impoverishment and misery. Rise up and prove to the Albanians that you are invincible, that you will defend your cause with every sacrifice.
"So I, too, have great respect for you. I have great and boundless respect for those tens of thousands of citizens who filled the boulevard of Tirana on May 8 and who became a mirror, a moral, a true image of the Albanian, in all four corners of the nation, in all four corners of the earth," said Berisha.
The chief democrat, focusing on the May 8 protest, said that thousands of citizens braved the weather conditions to express opposition to the government.
"A day of incessant rain, after a comprehensive state terror, after an unprecedented terror and media censorship. Tens of thousands of citizens gathered to express their revolt against a hostile regime, against Albania and Albanians. They gathered to prove that they are the hope of this country, that they are the elite of Albanian courage, that they are the citizens with the highest responsibility to themselves, to their family, to society and to their country. They gathered to convey to every Albanian, but also to every free citizen in Europe and in the world, that we will never agree with this regime, which does not have any legitimacy for an hour. With this regime, which transforms the most fundamental process of democracy, elections, into an electoral farce. They do not agree with this regime, which in order to rob the elections, arrests the opposition leadership as persons under investigation in the electoral year, to sow terror," he said.
Following these statements, Berisha accused the government of using the judiciary and state institutions to exert pressure on the opposition.
Berisha then addressed his supporters, telling them that they are "writing a new chapter" in the country's history, as according to him they disagree with the current government and what he described as the prime minister's criminal behavior.
"And you, of course, stand up undefeated, you do not agree with a coward, with a coward, who brings back to Albania the scenes of 50 years ago of the war against the political opponent. That is why you fill the boulevard, that is why you come to this square every week. You are writing history, a bright chapter of our national history, because you can never agree with this terrible theft, with this continuous impoverishment of Albanians.
It has never happened that the prime minister, in order to protect his theft, blocks the investigation, uses the immunity shield, releases Linda of the AKSHI from house arrest to protect Linda of Surrel, who has Linda of the AKSHI only as a presta nome. So you are writing a new chapter, because you never agree with such acts of a bandit in government, of a criminal who is capable of making any decision, who is capable of deciding everything just to save his skin as a criminal, for the crimes he has committed ," he added.
In his speech to supporters, Berisha said that the protest had an "extraordinary" echo and stressed that the opposition remains against any act of violence, although he admitted that fireworks were thrown.
"The last protest on the 8th had an extraordinary echo. And I'm saying it here, to be open. We are absolutely against violence and we will stand strong. And this is strength, I guarantee you, that this is strength. Nonviolence is a great strength. As never before, in 8 protests not a single police officer was injured, hurt, none. Although, there are some of them who are more criminal than any criminal. Yes. But we stand by our principles.
"So, in 8 protests, of course, fireworks and other means were used. I will tell you one thing. All over the world, all the media in the world have been with you. You have been represented in the most dignified way as free citizens ," he said.
The democratic leader said that the protesters represent "the cream and elite of the nation" in a period that he described as one of the most critical for Albanians.
