Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the conference with EC President Ursula von der Leyen, stated that Albania is lucky to be located in the middle of Europe and to have the support of the European Union.

The head of government emphasized that otherwise, according to him, the country would find it impossible to create a functional state.

Rama also added that Albania does not do its duties for the EU or member states, but for "ourselves."

Edi Rama: When you say 2027, it means that within this year the group of chapters will be closed. We have to do the tasks here, chapter by chapter, plus the growth plan. If we get a positive assessment, it is as a result of the tasks done so far.

We don't do the tasks that the EU asks of us, nor to please those who will approve our membership tomorrow, nor in Paris, nor in Berlin, nor in... I wanted to say London, but London has fled in an unknown direction, or to Rome.

We do the tasks for ourselves, we make Albania stronger and more functional as a state. The integration process for us is a process of democratic state-building.

At the end of this process, when the EC says that we have finished our work, we, Albania, receive a certificate for ourselves, that based on the opinion of the EU we are a functional democratic state. Then as such, we can enter the EU, then the process of improvement begins, even the Germans who have been held for decades as the most perfect are not as perfect as we thought, now they are realizing it themselves.

We are lucky to be in the middle of Europe and have the EU accompanying us in this process. If we were outside this continent and did not have the EU, it would be impossible for us to create a functioning democratic state.
