"Leku paper" - Over 7 million euros for salaries and bonuses for Albanian MPs, in 2025

Over 7 million euros! That's how much money 140 deputies received last year. Data from the Assembly show that more than 453 million lek or about 4.6 million euros were spent on salaries for Albanian legislators alone. September, followed by October, November and December are the months with the highest expenses for the salaries of "people's representatives". 

Meanwhile, for domestic and international travel, participation in parliamentary committees, or reimbursement of telephone and hotel expenses, Albanian MPs have received more than 241 million lek or about 2.5 million euros. In line with salaries, the largest bonuses were also given in the last months of the year.

Data from the Assembly shows that salary expenses account for 54 percent of the total money paid to 140 Albanian legislators last year, while the rest are bonuses and reimbursements.

In terms of fees, domestic and international travel accounts for the largest share of expenses at 24 percent, followed by commission fees, telephone, rent, and hotels.

Expenditures for the 140 people's representatives in the Assembly have expanded significantly since the second half of 2023.

Left and right-wing MPs joined forces to vote on the bill that increases salaries for the positions of president, prime minister, ministers, MPs, and public administration employees.
