KAS begins recounting votes for DP candidates in 42 Dibra polling stations

The recount of preferential votes between DP candidates in 42 ballot boxes in the Dibër district has begun at the KAS, a request made by Xhemal Gjunkshi with the claim that his votes were stolen. At the start of the meeting, KAS member Elvin Lako explained that 42 ballot boxes are involved.

" According to the request, there are 43 VCs. But from a verification, it turns out that we have a duplication of one VC. VC 1029/00 you wrote twice. VC 1096/00 belongs to KQZAZ 19. Today we will examine 42 ballot boxes ," said KAS member Elvin Lako.

The decision to recount the votes in these Dibra ballot boxes was made by the DP members in the KAS, Ledio Braho and Elvis Çefa. Gjunkshi failed to win a mandate in the count that took place on May 11. He was ranked second on the open list with 120 votes less than the candidate Përparim Spahiu.

It remains unclear what Gjunkshi intends to achieve, given that in the Dibra district, the DP received two mandates that went only to the closed list. Even if, in the recount, he surpasses the other candidate, Spahiu, he has no chance of entering the Assembly. 

Meanwhile, starting next week, the recount of votes for subjects and candidates for the Tirana and Fier districts is expected to begin, a decision that was also made by the DP members in the KAS.

Chief Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi explained that the process is expected to last up to 20 days, while the result throughout Albania will be certified in mid-August.
