Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with journalists and media representatives from European Union countries, where he was asked about the investment in Zvërnec and the protests in the country.

Regarding the protests, the head of government said that he knows the feeling of protest very well, as he recalled 'January 21', where four protesters were killed, and made the connection with the fact that protests are now free in Albania.

Question: How worrying is it for you that the protests are becoming more widespread? Is it a concern for you?

Rama: Listen, first of all. This is a free country. I myself have been a participant in protests and I know it well, I know the taste of the moment when it is difficult to protest, I also know the taste of blood when the protest takes place in an unfree environment. On this boulevard, not a century ago but only less than 20 years ago, or more precisely in 2011, four protesters were killed with assault weapons. They had been targeted from this building. For me, it is a different era, it is a different moment in history, and something very good that people can protest without any problem. Even though it may seem like the smallest thing, it is another achievement of this decade. An achievement that Albanians have been fighting for a long time. This is the first.

For this episode, we took stricter and faster measures, the guard was arrested, the director of the Vlora police was dismissed and the police unit that was on the ground, which did not act to stop the guard, was put under investigation. The security company's license was revoked. The act of violence ignited feelings, the video went viral and paved the way for more questions to be raised about the property, the project. Then, suddenly the issue became broader and now affects everything, which is okay, but we are no longer in the dynamics of a few people's protest. Although I have seen reports of hundreds of thousands of people, which is extremely ridiculous. I don't want to talk about the numbers, which for me are modest, but I want to talk about...

The protest turned into a mass protest with the refrain "cancel the project", I told them; yes, but show me the project.

This is not about me, Albania, but about democratic society to reflect on how half-truths can become bigger lies and ignite the environment that is the environment throughout the platform. We no longer stand on the essence, but somewhere else.
