Who is the new EU ambassador expected to be appointed in Tirana?

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has announced the proposed appointment of 33 European Union ambassadors and 7 deputy heads of European Union delegations.

Among them is Sofia Moreira de Sousa, who has been nominated for the post of European Union Ambassador. She currently serves as Head of the European Commission Representation in Portugal and previously held, among others, the post of European Union Ambassador to Cape Verde.

The 145 EU delegations are the face of the European Union around the world and constitute the front line of protecting the EU's interests outside its borders. They inform, implement and promote the European Union's priorities and its foreign and security policy.

The appointments of EU ambassadors will be formalised once official approval has been obtained from the respective host countries, where necessary, as well as after the completion of other administrative procedures within the framework of the rotation process for 2026.
