Tirana Court dismisses Rama's LAWSUIT for Basha!
Lulzim Basha/Edi Rama

The Tirana Court has dismissed Prime Minister Edi Rama's lawsuit against former Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha for defamation of honor and personality, following public statements in 2018 about the involvement of senior Socialist Party officials in the "339" case.

The head of government had sued Basha for defamation of honor and personality and demanded that he pay non-pecuniary damages in the amount of 1 million lek.

Basha had accused Vangjush Dako and SP structures of being involved in colluding with criminal groups to buy votes.

With the decision dated June 11, the Tirana Court decided to dismiss the lawsuit on the grounds that it is unfounded in law and evidence, while the legal costs will be paid by the plaintiff. This court decision can be appealed within 15 days.

A day earlier, the press office of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition said that “The Court of General Jurisdiction in Tirana dismissed Rama’s lawsuit, assessing that Basha’s statements constituted a legitimate political opinion, based on publicly known facts, and made in the function of his duty as leader of the opposition.”
