The "Beleri"/Dendias case: the EU will not tolerate violations of the
Nikos Dendias

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, invited to Ant1 television to comment on the result of the Greek elections, was asked, among others, about the Beleri case, after the decision to extend his detention.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an official announcement", he said, emphasizing that "extending the detention goes against the sense of public justice and the European perception of the rule of law". But there are also things that are not said in public, added Dendias.

"I also met my Albanian counterpart and told her everything that many people understand that I should tell her. We do not want to put anyone in a difficult position, but on the other hand, not only the Greek government, but also the EU will not tolerate violations of the rule of law from a country in Europe", said the head of Greek diplomacy .

" When we say to all the countries that there should be independent justice, all the countries that are on the path to membership, and we rightly say this, in no way can this be opposed and not implemented, so have independent justice. But since we also have an election period, I don't want this problem to turn into an issue of the election campaign. The Greek system absolutely knows this issue and has an absolute identification of views, so I think that, as a whole, it knows very well what needs to be done there and will do it with all due seriousness. It is also unfortunate that this happened because Greek-Albanian relations in this period marked an extraordinary progress ", he said.

Referring to Albania's journey to the EU, Dendias emphasized that he does not use threatening language in terms of the impact of this event on this process, and added that everything that needed to be said was said in Brussels, where it had to be said, just like it had to be said and Greece is waiting for the results.

It is worth noting that Nikso Dendias is the conservative MP who collected more votes than any candidate of his party in Sunday's triumph of New Democracy.
