The Special Court of Appeal did not allow Mayor Erion Veliaj's American lawyer to attend the hearing.

Joshua Roberts has come to Tirana in the role of observer in the Veliaj case while representing the American law firm "Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP".

A day after he met the mayor in his cell, today he went as an observer to the Appeals Court of Kosovo to closely follow the session, where Veliaj is seeking release, but his lawyer was not allowed to be present.

A day ago, he told the media that he came as an observer and that he would advise Erion Veliaj's lawyers, who have requested conditional release in the appeal.

"I'm here simply as an observer. In America, under the Constitution and the law, criminal charges and offenses are brought based on reasonable cause when a crime has been committed."

"And citizens facing criminal charges can only be detained before trial if they pose a danger to society," Roberts said a day ago, after meeting Erion Veliaj, who stressed that "I will observe the appeal arguments regarding Mayor Veliaj's conditional release," he said.
