Elisa Spiropali, who is now a simple MP, has reacted on social media after the lifting of EU measures against Kosovo.
"The lifting of EU measures against Kosovo is good news, but it is above all a confirmation of something we have always believed: when there is prudence, coordination and determination, the roads open."
Kosovo has shown that it knows how to exercise its sovereignty responsibly — and that is why Europe has reacted positively. It is not a coincidence. It is the result of difficult choices made at the right time.
But this moment should also be read as an opportunity, not just an achievement. Candidate country status is not a gift — it is the next logical step for a democracy that has remained committed to European values even when the pressure has been extraordinary. The European Union??????? must take this step. Not as a gesture of solidarity, but as a strategic decision with clear costs if postponed further.
Our region today is at a historical crossroads. Either it will enter a new phase of democratization through European integration, or it will remain hostage to cyclical crises, tensions, and weak states. Integration is no longer a political aspiration, it is a vital necessity to build strong institutions, a functional economy, and an order free from state capture and the rule of law.
"Without this direction, the Balkans remain a periphery to its own fate. With this direction, it becomes part of a Europe that does not negotiate with weakness, but builds strength through order," writes Spiropali, who still continues to speak as Foreign Minister, despite her unexpected dismissal by Edi Rama.
