Prime Minister Edi Rama has distributed a message on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Rama states that Albania is the only European country that protected Jews when they were persecuted and killed by the Nazis, while emphasizing that Albania will always be the home of the Jewish people.
The head of the Albanian government adds that our country stands firmly against anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.
“Today, on #HolocaustRemembranceDay, we honor the millions lost and the resilience of those who survived. We also remember with pride that thanks to the bravery of our (mostly Muslim) grandparents and mothers, Albania, a small nation with a big heart, became a holy land – emerging from World War II as the only European country with more Jews than before.
We stood then, and we stand now, against anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. We want Jews and Palestinians to live in peace as neighbors in two sovereign states; with no terror tunnels beneath and no one questioning Israel's right to exist. To the Jewish people we say today: Albania will always be your home. Come, visit, invest and let us build a more shared future rooted in hope and unity," Rama wrote.
