The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, reacted to the passing of the Archbishop of the Orthodox Church, Anastasios Janullatos.

"The sun set forever for His Beatitude, Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and all Albania, Anastasios Janullatos.

"Today, with special honor and respect, I express my greatest appreciation for the immortal contribution of His Beatitude in the resurrection from the ashes of the communist dictatorship of the Autocephalous Church of Albania. I also express my deepest condolences to the family, the Autocephalous Orthodox Church and all the Orthodox of Albania and I pray to God, together with them, that the bright soul of this unsparing servant of the Church and God may find eternal peace," Berisha wrote on Facebook.

The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania announced that Janullatos passed away at the Evangelismos Hospital in Athens, where he had been hospitalized after his health deteriorated. He was 95 years old.

The funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 30 in Albania, as it was Janullatos's will that he be laid to rest in our country. His body will arrive in Albania on Tuesday, while the resting place has not yet been determined, but it is believed that it will be the Monastery of Saint Vlash in Durrës.
