The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, began his tour of the podiums today, holding a conversation with the citizens of unit no. 9.
The first stage of the tour takes place near a bar at the former train station.
During his speech, Berisha thanked DP supporters for their contribution and efforts against the current government, which he harshly criticized.
"First of all, I will humble myself with boundless gratitude to all of you, to your extraordinary contribution and effort against this regime. A regime that has in fact devastated this country like no other occupation in its entire existence. A regime that has brought about the dilemma, to be or not to be, absolutely without any alternative ," said Berisha.
He stressed that the country is facing a deep demographic and social crisis. The birth rate is the lowest in the last 100 years, according to him, as many young people are leaving Albania, and deaths are exceeding births.
"We are a nation with the lowest birth rate in the world, with our young people fleeing the country. The population reduction has reached half a million or even more," Berisha said.
He accused the government of creating a dictatorial system that, while not prohibiting pluralism by law, suppresses politics and society to maintain power.
"I stopped at this moment to emphasize that we live in a dictatorial system that has accepted pluralism, that here we are political parties, has not banned it with the constitution and laws, but suppresses it without principle, but suppresses it and narrows the space to stay in power. It is based on two main pillars. On drugs!" , Berisha continued.
Berisha also spoke about the arrest of former Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini.
Berisha said that Mogherini would come to Tirana the next day to make statements in favor of Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government.
"The lady who was arrested and I congratulate her, she was supposed to be in Tirana tomorrow. Edi Rama had scheduled her to give statements, but fortunately Eurojust gave the statements to the one who deserved them ," said Berita.
Speeches like today's are expected to continue in other units, aiming, according to the DP, for a direct dialogue with citizens.
